4th xi to play semi final at home

Congratulations to the 4th XI who have finished third on the ladder and will play Brighton in this week's semi-final.  The 4's have not been beaten in a 2-day game this year and are a good chance to beat Brighton again and earn a place in the Grand Final.

The Semi-Final will be held on the main oval at EE GUNN, this Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March, starting at 1pm both days.

Supporters, senior players and junior players are all very welcome and strongly encouraged to come down to support the team.  It will be a fun day for the club: the bar will be open, the BBQ will be fired up, or you can bring down your own picnic or esky.

Players are also invited to attend training on Thursday night to put the 4th XI through their paces.
Let's help to get the boys over the line!!!

casino royale night

Bond - Entrance Bond - Blackjack
Bond - Dancing Bond - Inside
Bond - Bond Girl & Senior BondFrom Ormond with Love.

EE Gunn Pavilion experienced a Bond makeover last Saturday 28th February as Casino Royale fever took hold. A hundred and fifteen Bonds and Junior Bonds were stunned as they took in the total makeover of the pavilion and entered the casino via the red carpet. Stunning gowns and suits were the order of the night as the fantastic casino set up, cocktails and Bond gambling money created a great social occasion.

The planning and hard work of Shane and Pam Blandford, Mandy King and bar manager Darren Stait ensured a night that will be remembered for many years to come.

R.M. Hatch COMPETITION

After winning the RM Hatch Competition for the first time last year, the Ormond Cricket Club attempted back-to-back wins in 2009.  The 2009 competition commenced on Monday 12th January, and our team performed extremely well, winning five of their six matches in the preliminary round. The boys won their semi final against Croydon and qualified for the Grand Final against Broadmeadows.  Despite their best efforts the boys were defeated in the Grand Final.  Broadmeadows 9/164 def Ormond 148.

Congratulations to the Coaching team of Darren Stait, Steve Ambler and Sam Kindlen and all the boys including current Senior players, Tom Cameron (Capt), Sam Blandford, Sam Stait, Lucas Forato and Arvind Krishnamoorthy.

CONGRATULATIONS RUSSELL OATEN

Congratulations to Russell Oaten who joined the "200 Game Club" when he played his 200th VSDCA 1st XI game on Saturday 20th December.  This milestone has only been reached by about 100 other players in the VSDCA, and is a significant achievement.

CONGRATULATIONS SIMON AND SCOTT

Congratulations to Ormond Captain Coach SIMON BESHARA who took a hat-trick in the First XI match against Moorabbin in Round 7 (5/28 off 9 overs) and to Junior Section player SCOTT GORDON who also took a hat-trick in the U12C East match against Beaumaris in Round 5 (4/15 off 4 overs).

SUCCESSFUL SEASON LAUNCH

On Thursday 9th October the junior and senior sections of the club came together for a very successful season’s launch at EE Gunn Reserve. More than one hundred excited juniors with their parents received their playing shirts as teams, captains, coaches and managers were announced prior to the first round of matches.

The club was fortunate to obtain the Chairman of Selectors for the Victorian Bushrangers, John McWhirter, who spoke to both senior players and several juniors about the pathways available to young players and how senior Premier Cricket talent is identified and fast tracked to levels of state selection in all forms of the game.

The arrival of the coloured one day shirts added to the occasion as senior captains Simon Beshara (1st XI), Sean Clark (2nd XI), Darren Stait (3rd XI) and David Jones (4th XI) were announced.

The club thanks our major sponsor Buxton Real Estate and Andrew Chisholm for their continued support and also appreciates the assistance of the Glen Eira Council for its ongoing support of turf cricket in the municipality.

What's Happening "Around The Nets"

Senior training is at the nets at EE Gunn Reserve on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.00pm. Specialist Coach Peter Burke attends training on Tuesdays.

Junior Coaching

A new junior coaching structure was introduced last season. The lynchpin to the success of this initiative was the appointment of Darren Stait to the newly created position of Junior Coaching Coordinator.

The key outcome from this new structure, and from Darren's appointment, will be a far more effective cricket skills acquisition program for our young cricketers. But to be completely successful it will need support from the parent group to step-up as coaches and assistant coaches, and involvement of the Club’s Senior players.

Read more here about how you can become involved.
